Usage

The tensioning bolts or tie rods connect multi-part hammers, most often connects the cylinder head, the cylinder and the chuck housing of the hydraulic hammer, thus forming a unique impact mechanism. It is subjected to high tensile, compressive and torsional stresses as well as vibrations.

Maintenance

It is most often replaced when it breaks and then at least two tie rods are replaced diagonally. Never mix original and replacement tie rods - either all original or all replacement tie rods must always be used - primarily because the tightening torques are different. They are inspected in the field by visual control. An experienced serviceman will hear a different hammering sound - a metallic ringing sound that indicates a possible tie rod break. With some hammers, long-term operation with a broken tie rod can cause the piston and cylinder to seize, which is why it is very important to immediately stop hammer operation and replace the tie rods - it is recommended to replace the set of seals, threaded inserts if there are any, as well as the nuts and washers of the tie rods.
